Located in Southwestern Mexico is the state of Oaxaca.

This region of Mexico is known for its unique indigenous population, namely the Zapotecs and the Mixtecs.

The state’s amazing weather, traditional cuisine, and stunning forest and ocean views are other reasons tourists seek out Oaxaca every year.

Seeing as Oaxaca is situated just above the equator, this is a popular destination for tourists seeking to escape during the winter months.

The high season in Oaxaca is typically November, December, and January.

Unsurprisingly high demand means higher costs with an average round trip ticket cost being $730 and Hotel costs averaging $297 a night.

If you’re looking for the cheapest time of year to travel to Oaxaca, then you’ll want to aim for September and early October or late May and early June.

Price tickets dwindle down a bit with an average round trip plane ticket costing anywhere from $420 - $500 and an average hotel stay costing $150 a night.

During the off season, hotel prices come down quite a bit, helping you to save on travel as well and allowing you to stay longer if you can.

Keep in mind however that if you go during the fall, you will see an uptick in hotel prices during the end of October because of the national celebration of the Day of the Dead on October 31.

When you go during the off season, you’ll not only get a great deal on your travel expenses, but you can also enjoy the state when it’s not in full tourist mode.

This allows you to experience the region in its natural beauty, giving you more opportunities to interact with its authentic culture.

If you do plan to visit during the off season, it’s important to do a bit of research as some services offered during the tourist season might not be available during the off seasons.

Still, this shouldn’t deter you from planning your trip.
