Located in the heart of Mexico, just north of Mexico City, is the picture perfect town of San Miguel de Allende.

This city has a very unique and historic vibe to it, making it one of the most sought after destinations for retirees, expats, and young adults looking for a celebratory getaway.

Understandably, this has also become one of the most popular destinations to travel to in Mexico.

If you are thinking about visiting this colonial-era city, then you’ve probably contemplated what is the cheapest time of year to travel to San Miguel de Allende.

Unlike other destinations in Mexico, the cost of traveling to San Miguel de Allende can be a bit costly.

This is largely because of the strong expat community that lives here.

The expat community along with everything the city has to offer has allowed San Miguel de Allende to be a popular destination year round, meaning prices are rather high year round.

Still, peak season will typically be the Easter and Christmas holidays.

This is when the city really comes alive with festivities and welcomes an influx of visitors.

Unfortunately for travelers, this means costs for coming into the city and finding a place to stay will also go up.

You can avoid this by traveling to San Miguel de Allende from mid to late September. This is right when the festivities have not yet begun, and when the rainy season is starting to come to a close.

If you can’t make it during September, early August until early December can be good times to find a cheap deal.

Mid January to early March is also good time to book your trip.
