How Much Does it Cost to Travel to Mexico City?

Mexico City is one of the country's most popular destinations, and with good reason. This lively city is bubbling with culture, flavor, and stunning architecture and history.

If you're planning a trip to this iconic metropolis, then you're probably wondering how much does it cost to travel to Mexico City? The good news is, it's really affordable. From booking your plane tickets to sorting out your lodging and other accommodations, you'll be surprised at just how cheap it can be to plan a trip to Mexico City.

As with any destination, when you visit during the high season, you can expect to pay more on just about everything travel related. The peak season in Mexico City is December during the Christmas holiday, and then again in the spring during the Easter holiday. Day of the Dead season (October 28th - November 3rd) also sees quite a bit of tourists because of the national celebrations. During peak season, the cost of a round-trip airplane ticket can cost anywhere from 300 to $400.

The low season runs right alongside Mexico City's rainy season which starts around May and runs through October. While you can find some great deals during this time, you should also plan accordingly because of the weather. The cheapest month to travel to Mexico City is typically September. During this time, you can find round trip tickets as low as $200 per person and the weather is just beginning to clear up again.

Hotel accommodations will also be impacted by the tourist season and national holidays. On average, however, a hotel stay will typically run about $75 to $100 per night. To get the best bargain for lodging, booking an Airbnb can be a great way to save big on your stay.

When you do get to Mexico City, you'll find that the cost of goods throughout the city is rather affordable as well. The cost of meals, travel within the city, and entertainment is generally half the cost or cheaper than what they are here in the United States.
