Today's #instatidechallenge from @risingtidesociety really stumped me. It took me years to figure out my true passion. And it took me years to find the courage to realize that I wasn't happy and make the necessary changes in my life to take back the reins. I thought my art was my passion. And it is! Completely! But to think about my passions beyond my art... the things I care about deeply. What drives me. Part of my why. There are too many. I love animals. So much so that I'm actually vegetarian. I love working with children with disabilities. So much so that I cried for weeks after resigning in order to pursue photography. I have so many things I care deeply about, but it all comes back to the idea of empathy. It's one of the things most important to me. To have empathy. To find points of connection. Through connection there is authenticity. And through authenticity there is empowerment. I want to help empower people.... couples... friends... strangers. I went through a season in life where I was a stranger to myself. And though photography definitely helped bring me back to life, I had to work really hard to get there. Having more empathy for both myself and others helped me find more ways to grow as I'm constantly working on being the most authentic and best version of myself. Having more empathy and really taking the time to know someone's story... to connect... to be raw... to just be. It's so important. And it's one of the biggest reasons that drives my why of doing what I do. Empathy. If we could all give a little more of that every day, imagine how much more joy and love there would be. 💕
